Wild Boar in the Forest of Dean

After an absence of approximately 700 years wild boar are again free-living in the Forest of Dean area of Gloucestershire. The renewed presence of such a large wild animal has, in recent years, created polarised views, with some welcoming their presence and others finding them unacceptable.

The Institute of Science and the Environment, University of Worcester, has designed a questionnaire in order to obtain an independent and objective understanding of people’s perceptions to the presence of the boar. It is intended that the data gathered will be used to inform the long-term management of the boar in the Forest of Dean
